The reviews for the new Scream movie are out and suffice to say, things are looking good for Sidney, Gail and Dewey. If perhaps a little gory.

With Empire leading the fray with a fab 4/5 star review, it’s IGN who clearly loved it, awarding the movie a whopping 9/10, saying in their extensive review:

‘The latest addition to the Scream franchise expertly blends reverence for the source material while creating something that feels almost completely new. All of the performances are pitch-perfect as the new generation of Woodsboro teens step into their futures, the kills are gnarly, and no version of toxic fandom is left un-mocked.”

Fans of the franchise won’t have to look far this time when it comes to LGBTQ representation as it stars Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, the Scream movie’s first character who is openly queer.

When we say openly queer, there’s been a fan theory for a while that the original murderers in the 1996 movie Billy (played by Skeet Ulrich) and Stu (Matthew Lillard) were in fact a closeted gay couple.

Neve Campbell herself addressed this in a recent interview where she says: “If I were to theorize, I would say that there was perhaps some confusion with them and that maybe some of their anger comes from not being allowed to be who they want to be”. See the full interview on the subject below.

The movie is out in theatres this weekend and the hype factor just jumped about 1000% with the top notch reviews so hopefully they will be Screaming all the way to number 1 in the box office!
