Release date and new details announced for Hocus Pocus 2 and it’s more queer than ever
Oh HELL yeah! We cannot WAIT to get down and dastardly with the Sanderson sisters once again in Hocus Pocus 2 which will hit Disney+ on September 30 with some RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni along for the ride.
This is gonna be WILD and we cannot wait. It’s only been 29 years so what’s a few more months? In a presentation yesterday by Disney, details have been announced for the new movie starring (OF COURSE) the original witches Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker.
There is no trailer as of yet but what we DO know is that there is a scene in the spooky flick where the Sanderson’s end up in a drag bar (OF COURSE again) and encounter drag versions of themselves played by Ginger Minj, Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté, and Kahmora Hall. SO meta, right? We would pay good money to see Midler as Winifred square off against Ginger Minj as a her in drag.
Also starring Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham and Veep‘s Tony Hale, who plays the mayor of Salem, some rough-cut footage was also shown depicting two young girls lighting the Black Flame Candle which summons the despicable witches and Midler can be heard screeching: “Lock up your children! Yes, Salem, we’re back!” after which the trio launch into the first musical number, a perfectly chosen cover of Elton John’s The Bitch Is Back.
Director Anne Fletcher said in a statement about the movie: “I am beyond thrilled to be involved in the sequel to a film that is as beloved as Hocus Pocus,” sequel director Anne Fletcher said last year in a statement about the upcoming film. “Fans around the world have embraced these characters and have made this film a Halloween tradition whose popularity continues to grow, and how lucky am I to be back at Disney with these three extraordinarily talented ladies in the iconic roles they created, as well as our fabulous new additions to the cast?”
We are SO excited to see this and frankly September 30 cannot come soon enough. We’ll bring you more info as and when.
