Oscar nominee and musical star Cynthia Erivo has come out as bisexual saying that ‘Nerves and fear have gotten in the way of sharing all of who I am’

Cynthia’s career thus far is a roll call of fabulous parts having starred in The Color Purple on Broadway, Sister Act on tour in the UK as well as being a guest judge on Strictly Come Dancing and has also been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar AND the Best Original Song Oscar for the film Harriet in 2019.

Speaking to Vogue for their Pride issue, she said: “[Many LGBTQ+ people] still feel the need to be constantly justifying why we deserve to be treated as equal beings, when really the only difference is that we love differently and we express ourselves differently.”

Erivo shared some of the shots from the shoot with Vogue on her Instagram page, also stating: “Nerves and fear have gotten in the way of sharing all of who I am, and today with Pride and with wonderful people beside me I’m sharing a little more. Rather than being chastised for that we should be commended for being brave. That’s the most important thing: giving people the space to show up fully as who they are.”

Big things are afoot for Cynthia as she is due to star as Elphaba in the movie version of Wicked alongside Ariana Grande, directed by Jon M. Chu. It has also been reported that the musical will be split into TWO movies as Chu thought it would be so powerful to end the first film on Defying Gravity which happens at the en of Act 1 on stage.
