Phoenix drag legend Barbra Seville has blasted Arizona GOP Candidate for Governor, Kari Lake, for spouting anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric when they’ve actually been ‘friends’ for years and she’s even met Lake’s kids.

It was bound to happen at some point and even though wild hypocrisy in the Republican Party is as common as a drunk bride-to-be at a drag brunch, this one really takes the biscuit.

Once you’ve gotten your head around that fact that it is DRAG QUEENS and not assault style weapons that are the latest focus of the GOP’s ire when it comes to child protection, it won’t come as a surprise to read Kari Lake’s tweet , towing the party line that drag performers are ‘groomers’.

God, guns and glory indeed. Sigh. Well it seems like Lake has either changed her tune completely or is just plain lying as drag performer Barbra Seville (real name Richard Stevens) was having none of her nonsense.

Stevens said that he and Lake had been friends for years, she’d been to countless of his shows and even booked him for a pal’s BABY SHOWER! Posting on his Facebook Page (see below), he wrote: “I’ve performed for Kari’s birthday, I’ve performed in her home (with children present,) and I’ve performed for her at some of the seediest bars in Phoenix.”

Stevens went on to say that Lake had attended countless drag shows and private parties during their friendship that had lasted over two decades since they met in the late 90s when she was a journalist. He also posted pics of the two of them together whilst confirming he’d performed at her birthday party and Lake introduced him to her young daughter as well.

Stevens said about the aforementioned baby shower: “I didn’t show up at her house as Marylyn Monroe. I was contacted by her, I was compensated by her. She treated me like a friend until it became inconvenient.”

The Washington Post, whist investigating the story, found a photo on her Instagram tagging Stevens, saying: “Half of what I know about makeup I learned from watching friends like @barbraseville.” The post was from December 2014 and when someone from the Post contacted Lake’s campaign, the picture was hastily deleted. Oops!

We are used to this sort of nonsense but the ramping of attacks on drag queens is beyond the pale. When RuPaul has to speak up, you know something’s going down. The misdirection of the current GOP is ASTOUNDING and the only way they will be stopped is at the polls so make sure you register, your life really does depend on it.
