Suddenly we wanna watch some sport.

Las Vegas Raiders’ Carl Nassib has become the first active player in NFL to publicly come out as gay.

The 28 year old took to Instagram to say:

“I just want to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,”

Continuing “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest.”

The player added that he was a “pretty private person” but wanted to share his truth because “representation and visibility are so important”.

The Raiders’ official page tweeted “Proud of you Carl” in response and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said: “The NFL family is proud of Carl for courageously sharing his truth today. Representation matters. We share his hope that someday soon statements like his will no longer be newsworthy as we march toward full equality for the LGBTQ+ community. We wish Carl the best of luck this coming season.”

Among the prominent voices who came out in support of the veteran NFL player was Michael Sam, who came out as gay before he was drafted in 2014, but didn’t make the final roster, who tweeted:

Carl Nassib thank you for owning your truth and especially your donation to the @TrevorProject. LBGTQ people are more likely to commit suicide than heterosexuals. I hope and pray people will take note to this. Thank you again Carl and look forward to seeing you play on the field.”

Congratulations, Carl! Happy Pride Month!
