Jordan Peele has proven himself a master of the horror genre, specifically centring on stories about families of colour. His new movie Nope is no different and this time stars queer actress Keke Palmer.

Super Bowl ads are notoriously expensive (and short) and last night’s big game was business as usual but it also included a spooky new trailer for Nope and it’s allll kinds of creepy.

Also starring Peele fave Daniel Kaluuya, the movie is shrouded in mystery with the trailer not shedding a great deal of light (literally) on the plot. There’s definitely an alien/paranormal vibe but any fan of his work will know to expect the unexpected.

Queerness and horror are historic bedfellows with LGBTQ+ people being drawn to the the character arcs and pioneers like Kevin Williamson and more recently the Chucky series embracing queer roles and gender non- conformity.

As for Keke Palmer, we can’t wait to see what she brings to the role, she said in an interview about coming out as bisexual: “I don’t think there is much fear maybe for a woman when it comes to being bisexual or being fluid or being queer or whatever anybody calls it. I think in that regard, maybe I had an easier time. And then my family is not typical in terms of that: My mom has always said when I was young, before I even thought of any of that stuff, that if her kids were (LGBTQ) she would just want the person to be cute!”

Nope is dues to released at the cinema on July 22 this year (fingers crossed).
