LGBT members of the British Armed Forces are returned the medals stripped from them

Over twenty years after the ban on LGBT people serving in the British Armed Forces was lifted, a great wrong is on its way to being righted today.

You only need to watch The Imitation Game or read into the history of Alan Turing (who they calculate saved more that 30 million lives and was then subsequently punished for being gay), to know the chequered history of LGBT people in the British Armed Forces.

Those who had been dismissed on grounds of their sexuality had also been stripped of their medals as well but now, they can apply to get them back.

While it might seem like small thanks for decades of service being repaid with disgrace, it is a step in the right direction. It’s unfortunate that it has taken so long for the Ministry of Defence to get to this point, with many of the people affected having died, without the honours owed to them.
