Now that festivals are back and the behemoth of Coachella has happened, besides Pride we don’t exactly have a great deal of ‘gay’ festivals. Well that’s about to change with the 3-day LGBT+ Festival to be held this summer in Porto, Portugal.

Kicking off on the July 1 in the coastal destination of Porto and running till the 3rd, the LGBT+ Festival is has announced even more artists that will be gracing the many stages. Iggy Azalia, Mel C, Little Boots, Todrick Hall and our personal FAVE, Peaches who has been touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her seminal album, The Teaches of Peaches.

Diogo Vieria da Silva, the festival spokesperson and executive director of Portugal’s LGBTI Commerce and Tourism Association said: “This will be a festival that remembers the past, celebrates the present and prepares for the future. Bringing people from all over the world together, it will create a truly safe space for everyone who knows and understands that music is an act of liberation. Combining inclusion with fun, the festival will help the city of Porto and local organizations to raise their support for LGBT+ people and will be the epicentre of the celebration of equality values. It will give a stage to LGBT+ artists and their allies, whilst elevating national artists to new heights.”

That sounds like just the sort of things we need right now as LGBTQ+ people are accused of barbarous things simply or political gain which translates to MORE violence against us and mental turmoil.

Festival Director Marco Azevedo said: “Whilst this event is inspired by the LGBT+ community and represents the biggest investment in this community, anyone and everyone will be welcome. This celebration is the result of the cooperation of several identities that represent Portugal’s diversity and our commitment to respecting others. Our festival’s mission is to make everyone feel seen and heard as we sing, dance and love across this 72-hour celebration!”

With Bebe Rexha, UK Drag Race alumnus Bimini Bon Boulash and Jodie Harsh and loads more also on the bill, it looks set to be a weekend to remember. You can get tickets and info HERE
