The NPH news is coming thick and fast of late and while we already know he is to appear in the new series of Doctor Who, he has confirmed that the new Doctor will be gay.

As we previously reported,  Sex Educations‘s Ncuti Gatwa is going to be playing the new Doctor Who from next year, taking over from Jodie Whittaker but we didn’t know that the character was going be gay… until now.

Neil Patrick Harris will be playing a character called The Toymaker who traps his victims in vicious kids games and said in a recent interview: “I got to meet and interact with him [Gatwa] a bit and he’s glorious. He’ll be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool, a sexier Doctor.”

As we reported recently, NPH can currently be seen (and we mean SEEN) in Netflix’s Uncoupled and the new Doctor Who looks like its going to be the most LGBTQ+ friendly season yet with Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney also joining the cast.

Showrunner Russell T. Davies said of Finney: “You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world — and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”

It’s an exciting time to be a Whovian and the queer representation is a dream come true for those of us who have been watching from behind the sofa since we were kids.
