Teaser drops for Tim Burton’s Wednesday and we are already obsessed
Tim Burton’s Wednesday has its first teaser.
In an era when conjoined horrors are coming in thick and fast, we are gagged by the forthcoming collab by the master of the macabre Tim Burton and his latest muse, Wednesday.
Wednesday is a coming-of-age comedy which charts Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Our new Netflix obsession will include Christina Ricci, who of course epitomised the character as a lasting icon in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed 1990s Addams Family franchise.
Netflix confirmed the news on Twitter earlier this year, posting: ‘Yes, it’s true — the magnificent Christina Ricci is joining the cast of the new Wednesday Addams series as an exciting new character *snap snap*.’
Details about Ricci’s role are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports she’s set to play a new character and not an older version of Wednesday.
Burton, the mind behind titles like Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, makes his television directing debut with the project and his first foray into ‘small screen’ streaming already hints at being a huge success, with fans flocking to social media to share their excitement that Wednesday will be introduced to a new generation of viewers.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘I am and always have been a HUGE Addams Family fan. I’m super stoked for this and from what I’ve seen, the casting is great.’
Ricci won’t be the only big name appearing in the highly-anticipated series, she’ll be joined by Jenna Ortega (Scream) in the title role of Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, George Burcea and Game of Thrones‘s Gwendoline Christie as the school principal.
There are several Addams Family alums also slated to join the project. Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman and Kevin Miserocchi, all of whom worked on the 2019 Addams Family, will executive produce alongside Jonathan Glickman, who was an executive producer on The Addams Family 2.
Wednesday will be streaming on the home of Stranger Things later in the year. We suspect Halloween time… just sayin’.
