Once upon a time, Madonna was THE gay icon and for many she still is although some would argue that honour has now passed to Lady Gaga.

After a bumpy few years for Madge, she’s come out for the gays once again with an artsy new video and a surprise performance at what frankly sounds like THE party to be at at the Boom Boom Room on the 18th floor of the Standard High Line in NYC this weekend to kick off the last weekend of Pride Month.

In attendance for what sounds like a VERY busy and crowded night (leave your Covid anxiety at the door babes) was Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, Zachary Quinto, Adam Lambert, SNL’s Bowen Yang and various RuPaul’s Drag Race stars.

Madonna performed the tracks Hung Up and I Don’t Search I Find and said in a lengthy statement of intent: “It is crazy, but with all the sacrifices, all the marching in the streets, all the protests, all the compromises, all the lives lost, all the relentless negotiations and all the bills being passed by legislation, the LGBTQ community is still fighting for their rights and their freedom. It is at this very time, as Republicans in the Senate are trying to set us back by stalling bills being passed, that we must never let our guard down and think, “Oh it’s done. The fight is over.”
