The groundbreaking directing siblings, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, have donated an incredible selection of movie memorabilia that they collected over the years in order to raise money and awareness for trans youth in America.

The Wachowskis are both trans and their Matrix movies have often been thought of as an allegory for the trans experience. The incredible donation has been done through Ariana Grande’s Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund and is in response to the slew of anti-trans laws sweeping the USA.

Writing on Twitter, Lilly said: “So me and Lana have been doing some spring cleaning at our Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse and have happily decided to pass on some of the best treasures we’ve been collecting over the years!! No Ark of the Covenants but some pretty major and magical artifacts!”

The collection is entitled “Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection” and includes art, props, posters, and production materials from their movies including Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, The Matrix, Netflix series Sense8 and Speed Racer. The items also includes ‘costumes, futuristic-looking firearms, eye-catching statuettes and also trophies the directors have received for their work’.

Bids started on April 26 and will be running until May 12 with items running from in the hundreds to the thousands. All the proceeds will go to the Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund and Ariana Grande has said that she will match up to $1.5 million in donations. Lilly’s latest movie Matrix Resurrections is out on streaming platforms now.
